The white tiger or bleached tiger is a pigmentation variant of the Bengal tiger which has often been witnessed in the wild from time to time in the Indian states of West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and in the Sunderbans region of Bihar and especially in the former State of Rewa. Such tigers have black stripes typical of the Bengal tigers, however, they carry a white or near-white coat. The white Bengal tigers are quite distinctive due to the hues of their fur. The white fur is caused by a lack of the pigment pheomelanin which is present in Bengal tigers with orange coloured fur. Comparing the two Bengal tigers, the white Bengal tiger tends to grow faster and heavier than the orange Bengal tiger. They also tend to be somewhat bigger than the orange tiger at their birth and as fully grown adults too. White Bengal tigers attain their full growth by the age of 2–3 years. White male tigers reach weights of 200 to 230 kilograms or 440 to 510 pounds and can grow up to 3 meters or 9.8 ft in length. Just like all the other tigers, the stripes of the white Bengal tiger are like fingerprints and no two tigers have the same pattern.
