Alfa Romeo Automobiles is an Italian luxury car manufacturer that defined by its unique contour and fine design. It was founded by Frenchman Alexandre Darracq as a company which would produce and sell special Darracq models for Italy. In late 1909, the Italian Darracq cars were selling slowly, and Giuseppe Merosi was hired by the Italian partners to design new cars. Basically it was famous for its sports cars. A new company was founded named A.L.F.A. (Societa Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) which translates to Anonymous Lombard Automobile Factory, in Milan, on 24 June 1910. The company produced its first non-Darracq car in 1910 which was a 24 HP model designed by Merosi. A.L.F.A. ventured into motor racing. In August 1915, curing the world war, the company came under the direction of Neapolitan entrepreneur Nicola Romeo, who converted the factory to produce military hardware for the Italian and Allied war efforts. The name of the company was changed to Alfa Romeo with the Torpedo 20–30 HP, in 1920. Alfa Romeo has competed successfully racing events such as Grand Prix motor racing, Formula One, sportscar racing, touring car racing, and rallies. It has competed both as a constructor and engine supplier.
