Siddhartha Gautama is said to be born during 576 BCE. He was also referred to as the Shakyamuni Buddha, Gautam Buddha, connoting "Sage of the Shakyas" or simply the Buddha, which means “the enlightened one”. He was mendicant, sage, philosopher, teacher and religious leader on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. Between the fourth and sixth century BCE, he is said to have thought mostly in north eastern part of the Ancient India . He was born in a small kingdom just below the Himalayan foothills. His father was a chief of the Shakya clan.It was declared and announced before twelve years of his birth that he would become a world known leader and sage. Hence to keep him from becoming ascetic, his father ensured that he was locked down inside the palace for most of the time. Gautama grew up in princely luxury, shielded from the outside world. When he came of age he married Gopa, who gave birth to a son. He had, as we might say today, everything. However, he still felt incomplete and left the worldly might.
Finally the Buddha settled down to work with two teachers. He learned how to discipline his mind to enter the sphere of nothingness from Arada Kalama, a teacher who was known to have three hundred discipes. But even though Arada Kalama asked him to remain and teach as an equal, he recognized that this was not liberation, and left.
